Since 2012, MHS has partnered with the Toronto Kiwanis Boys & Girls Clubs, a charity that provides a safe haven for children to develop social, behavioral and educational skills. Each year MHS raises and donates over $25,000 and 1600 employee hours. Additionally MHS provides internships in different areas of the business for two young adults from the club.

Dear Colleague,

It’s been a very busy year for everyone here at MHS. Not only have our product offerings increased, but our client base and sales have continued to grow each year. Thank you for your support! We continue to increase our capacity to serve you better.

This year I released a new book with my co-authors Drs. Howard Book and Korrel Kanoy – The Student EQ Edge: Emotional Intelligence and Your Academic and Personal Success (page 106). The book was based on our earlier best-seller, The EQ Edge: Emotional Intelligence and Your Success (page 106). The new edition, designed for use in colleges and universities, also has a student workbook and facilitator’s guide for leaders of programs, groups, or courses in emotional intelligence.

In addition to writing I’ve had the opportunity to do a lot of speaking about some of our new developments in emotional intelligence related to coaching and leadership. It’s been great to meet many new people, not only throughout the US and Canada, but in Brazil, Ireland, and China. The growing international interest in emotional intelligence, and specifically the EQ-i 2.0, (page 101) has been very exciting.

At MHS we’ve been pushing the boundaries on the uses of our instruments, in many cases providing us with data to help validate our tools. One example has been the use of a number of our assessments in screening reality show contestants for several popular reality TV shows. Not only have our measures been useful in the selection of candidates, but they provide us with a real life behavioral laboratory. Contestants go through numerous challenges, both physical and mental as part of the competition. Through an assessment battery that includes emotional intelligence, we’ve been able to look at which factors in tests help predict success in these reality shows. This includes factors to predict how contestants may react in intense social interactions, physical challenges, organizational skills, and overcoming fears. I have to admit, working in the entertainment industry can be fun. It also helps expand the boundaries of psychological practice.

Dear Valued Client,

One of the things I love most about my job, and about MHS in general, is that every day is different. The world is changing fast and at MHS we are dedicated to embracing and responding to this change in ways that improve the products we develop, the experiences our customers have, as well as incorporating the latest information such as DSM-5 to our new and existing products. Throughout 2014, you will see updates to our popular DSM-based products to ensure that they provide the most valuable diagnostic information possible. We hope to make this process as easy for you as possible users of the MHS Online Assessment Center will be automatically updated and MHS Scoring Software users will receive an email with an update for the software. See page 118 for details on DSM-5 updates to MHS Assessments.

Providing access to our products around the world is also important to MHS, and a significant part of my role involves working with international partners to assist them in translating and adapting products for the local populations. For me travel not only gives me the opportunity to support our international partners in their work, it also gives me a chance to speak with local psychologists. I enjoy finding out what their challenges are, and how we at MHS can help meet their needs. This includes not only supporting and encouraging translations and adaptations, but working with partners to ensure that the products are cost effective for the local populations.

Over the last two years we have worked hard to build partnerships in India for our Emotional Intelligence assessments and we are pleased to welcome two local Indian partners to our distribution family. 2013 also saw the addition of partners in Mexico, Thailand, Australia, France and Germany. To support all our international partners we launched the South African, Chinese, German and Portuguese versions of the EQ-i 2.0 (page 101).

Of course since my background is in product development, there is nothing more exciting to me than seeing new products developed and launched. 2014 will see the release of the third edition of the Conners Continuous Performance Test™ (Conners CPT 3™) and the brand new Conners Continuous Auditory Test of Attention™ (Conners CATA™) (page 20). These performance based measures contribute important objective information to the diagnosis of attention disorders and neurological functioning.
