Technical Information


The ADS and ADS:S normative sample included more than 1,400 people between the ages of 18 and 76 who were recruited through educational and work environments, as well as through the Internet. The clinical sample included aggressive drivers, general outpatients, individuals seeking mental health services for anger problems.

Reliability estimates of the ADS indicate strong support for the factor structure of the instrument. Internal consistency reliability is .97 for the full version Total score, and ranges from .70 to .96 for the subscales and higher order factors. The internal consistency reliability of the short version Total score is estimated at .86. Test-retest reliability estimates (based on a 2-week interval) range from .83 to .92 for the various scales of the full and short versions.

Validity
The ADS and ADS:S were both evaluated for test-retest reliability and internal consistency. The instruments were found to have high correlations with other measures of anger, demonstrating their concurrent validity. Discriminative validity was also shown in both instruments’ ability to differentiate between normal and clinical samples. Back to the top

About the Authors


Raymond DiGiuseppe, Ph.D., ABPP
Raymond DiGiuseppe, Ph.D., ABPP After earning a B.Sc. degree in psychology from the Villanova University and a M.Sc. in General Experimental Psychology from the State University College of New York at Brockport, Dr. DiGuiseppe joined St. John's University faculty in 1987 where he developed a doctoral program in school psychology and received the University's Faculty Achievement Medal.

He has trained hundreds of therapists from the world. He is the recipient of the Jack Krasner early career contribution award from APA's Division of Psychotherapy.

Dr. DiGiuseppe has contributed to the scientific and clinical literature with 5 books, more than 70 chapters and articles, and more than 100 conferences.

Dr. Tafrate earned his Ph.D. in Combined Clinical and School Psychology in 1995 from Hofstra University. He is a licensed Psychologist in Connecticut and New York, and is a Fellow and Supervisor at the Albert Ellis Institute.

As associate professor in the Criminology and Criminal Justice Department at Central Connecticut State University, Dr. Tafrate is the Director of the Graduate Program. He also teaches courses on anger and aggression. Back to the top
