Description


The ADOS is used to evaluate individuals of varying ages, from toddlers to adults, who are suspected of having Autism or Pervasive Developmental Disorders. The ADOS uses semi-structured behavioural observation and standardized coding to allow you to observe and quantify social and communicative behaviours that are relevant to the diagnosis of Autism at different developmental stages. The ADOS provides scores that are consistent with the broader diagnosis of PDD/Atypical Autism/Autism Spectrum, as well as the traditional, more narrow conceptualization of Autism. ADOS results are unaffected by language, which makes the instrument suitable for use with almost any individual.

How to Use the Assessment
The ADOS offers four modules to accommodate respondents with varying levels of functioning. Each module involves simple activities, such as storytelling and make-believe play, that allow you to observe specific, relevant behaviors. The order and pacing of the tasks can be adjusted to the needs of the individual being assessed. Module 1 is used with children who do not consistently use phrase speech, Module 2 with those who use phrase speech but are not verbally fluent, Module 3 with fluent children, and Module 4 with fluent adolescents and adults. The ADOS is not intended for use with nonverbal respondents.
