Deborah C. Beidel
Deborah C. Beidel received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986. She subsequently was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Clinical Research at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of the University of Pittsburgh for 2 years. Currently, she is Professor of Psychology at the University of Maryland-College Park. She is also Co-Director of the Maryland Center for Anxiety Disorders. Dr. Beidel has published widely on the nature and treatment of anxiety and has more than 140 articles, books, and book chapters to her credit. Dr. Beidel is the co-author of Treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Shy Children, Phobic Adults: The Nature and Treatment of Social Phobia. She has served as an extramural reviewer for the NIMH, has been appointed to the editorial board of 10 scientific journals, is Associate Editor of Behavior Therapy, and is Consulting Editor for American Psychologist. Dr. Beidel has served as Chair of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America's Children's Task Force, and her work has focused on Understanding the nature of anxiety disorders, on the developmental aspects of anxiety, and on the treatment of adults and children.
Samuel M. Turner
Samuel M. Turner received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Georgia in 1975. Dr. Turner's career has focused primarily on anxiety disorders, and he has published over 200 articles, books, and book chapters. He has served as editor of the Journal of Psychopathology and Behavioral Assessment, The Clinical Psychologist, and is Associate Editor-in-Chief of American Psychologist. Dr. Turner has been appointed to the editorial boards of numerous scientific journals. He has been a consultant to national granting agencies, including the NIMH, where he served on the Extramural Scientific Advisory Board as well as numerous Initial Review Groups. Currently, Dr. Turner is Professor of Psychology at the University of Maryland-College Park., where he also serves as Co-Director of the Maryland Center for Anxiety Disorders. Dr. Turner has devoted the majority of his career to conducting research aimed at further understanding the nature of anxiety and to the development and evaluation of treatments for anxiety disorders.
