CDS™
Carroll Depression Scales

Bernard Carroll, M.B., Ph.D.

Description

The CDS provide a dependable measure of the presence and severity of depressive symptoms so that treatment plans can be developed to effectively target an individual’s needs. The CDS discriminates depressed from nondepressed respondents more powerfully than other self-report Depression scales, making it an ideal instrument to use in primary care settings. Results link directly to DSM-IV™ criteria to facilitate a possible diagnosis. With a sixth-grade reading level, the CDS is suitable for individuals who are age 18 and older. Back to the topHow to Use the Assessment
The CDS scales consist of two components: the Carroll Depression Scale–Revised (CDS–R) and the Brief Carroll Depression Scale (Brief CDS). The Brief CDS is ideal for use as a screening instrument or for repeat testing to measure progress during treatment. The CDS–R and Brief CDS are available in handscored and software format. With the handscored format, CDS–R and Brief CDS QuikScore™ Forms allow for simple score calculation. With the software format, Profile Reports can be instantly generated for each CDS–R or Brief CDS administration. Reports Profile Reports present scores graphically and numerically to summarize each CDS–R or Brief CDS administration.
