About the Author

James Choca Ph.D.
The primary author of the computer Category Test (CatTM), James P. Choca, is a Cuban-American with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Loyola University Chicago. For twenty years, Dr. Choca was the head of the Psychology Service at the Lakeside Veterans’ Administration Medical Center. By the end of that period he was also an Associate Professor in the psychology program at the Northwestern University Medical School. From 1980 to 1985, Dr. Choca received training in neuropsychology from Joseph Bleiberg, Ph.D., who was then the head of the Psychology Department at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Dr. Choca’s interest and involvement with the Halstead Category Test date back to that period of time.
In 1999, Dr. Choca went to Roosevelt University in Chicago as a Full Professor to head the doctoral program in clinical psychology. He is now the Chair of the Psychology Department. His work with the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory culminated with the publication of an interpretative guide for this instrument, a popular APA book that is currently in its third edition.
More recently Dr. Choca has been involved in the creation of a DSM-IV-based computerized inventory, the Emotional Assessment System, and the upgrading of the Halstead Category Test.
